Dr. Plante grew up in Watertown, NY. She developed her passion for veterinary medicine working with her parents at their small animal practice. She also spent a lot of time volunteering and helping her father with the animals at Zoo New York. She started her education at SUNY Canton in the veterinary technology program before transferring to Cornell University to finish her degree in Animal Science.
After graduation she moved to Columbia, Missouri and attended the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. In Missouri she was able to explore all the different fields that veterinary medicine has to offer. It wasn’t until the end of her clinicals that she discovered her love for emergency medicine. It was in Missouri that she also met her now husband. After graduation she worked in St. Louis, Missouri as an emergency veterinarian before moving back home to upstate New York and joining VMC.
Dr. Plante’s favorite aspects of veterinary medicine include feline medicine, internal medicine, the team collaboration, and being able to connect with her clients.
Her home life is nothing but chaos between her vocal orange cat, hyper Dachshund, and playful Alaskan Malamute.
Dr. Plante’s hobbies include traveling, skiing, white water paddling, and scuba diving. While she does not work with exotic animals at VMC, she does have a passion for exotics and has traveled to Costa Rica to aid with research on sea turtle migrations and to South Africa on a veterinary trip to work with various animals including lions, zebra, elephants, and antelope.
